Xiao Xingchen is stunning and it gets under her skin. Xue Yang feels like a rat looking up at a star and yet she dares to climb, to stretch out her paw to graze the celestial beauty. She sees the other woman in town, briefly separated from her partner - Song Zichen - and she knows she won't get a better chance.
Jumping from her rooftop perch, she hits the ground running and cuts in front of Xingchen, Jiangzai out and ready should this turn bad. She doesn't really want to be gutted, yet part of her thinks it might be worthwhile.
"There you are! You know, you are dreadfully hard to find, Dajie!" she is breathless - and not from the run, "And you always have company. That just isn't fair."
It's infrequent lately to not travel side-by-side with her partner, but Zichen has her own tasks and Xingchen isn't about to begrudge her them, or intend to be a chain. She likes what she's seen of this town so far, though there are still people she sees she can help.
But she hadn't expected Xue Yang to find her here. Maybe she should have. The other woman had been alternating stalking her and leading her around, and she doesn't quite understand why her heart starts racing whenever she sees Xue Yang.
Shuanghua comes out when she sees Jiangzai, but she doesn't launch an attack. Just stands ready. The sulky words have her confused enough to tilt her head a little, brow furrowing.
"You can find me more than most. Why were you looking for me?"
She feels alive when the other woman speaks. Shuanghua should frighten her, but she is too far gone for that. Xue Yang doesn't even bring Jiangzai forward as she leans in, her voice low and sultry.
"Why can't I spend time with you too? Are there some rules saying I can't?" she beams, her too sharp, too pointed incisors showing, "Since you're by yourself, why don't you walk with me for a bit. I know the best parts of the city~"
She tries so hard not to giggle, but Xingchen is too adorable for words when she frowns like that!
She shouldn't listen. She knows this and yet...Jiangzai isn't raised against her, only to defend. Just as Shuanghua is. And that tone! She hardly knows how to respond, only that it wouldn't be right to just strike out.
"Is that all you want...? To walk with me?" Maybe if she can temper this woman's viciousness somehow it'll make things better.
Her eyes lower demurely, hiding her true mischievous intent. She tucks Jiangzai away and holds out her empty hands, daring to gaze into the other woman's eyes again. No one has ever had kinder eyes than Xiao Xingchen.
"I want to spend time with you. We can walk or...do other things..." she sighs, "It won't be bad for you. I don't wanna hurt you."
They are so close... She could slip her arms around Xingchen and nuzzle close. Wouldn't that feel heavenly?
Xingchen can only ever try. Once Jiangzai returns to it's sheath and vanishes, she returns Shuanghua to her back. It's hard to look away from Xue Yang's rather pretty eyes.
While that in itself is basically agreement, she eventually nods a little. "I would not mind walking with you, if you have no intent to harm. It is only when you attack and hurt innocents that I have to stop you."
"Why do you care about strangers so much?" she is genuinely curious about Xingchen's drive and she happily places herself at the other woman's side, "I've never met someone like you or Song Zichen."
Who needs to stay far far away. This is her time with Xiao Xingchen! Xue Yang keeps watch as she leads them on a path down the street. She absently tugs on her hand brace, reminding herself that she can't get too wrapped up in this woman or her philosophy and yet...
"Everyone deserves to live in peace, Xue Yang," she answers quietly. "Everyone deserves the chance to be protected if they are not harming others." Xingchen follows at her side, there's no doubt Zichen will find her when it's time to move on.
But for now, while she keeps an ear open for sounds of distress, her time is Xue Yang's. The tug on the odd half-brace catches her attention, but she doesn't feel it her right to ask about it. The new question has her shake her head a little. "I do not know. I do not understand."
"Do they?" she snorts and then giggles, closing the distance between them and taking hold of Xingchen's arm, "How do you know they're not harming others? They could be really good at hiding it~"
In her experience, everyone has a secret or two or three. She tucks her mauled hand partially inside of her robe to hide it.
"If someone hurt you really badly and no one was going to give you justice, would you want revenge?" her attention is focused entirely on the woman now and she barely blinks, "That would be an ordinary response."
"Yes," is the firm answer. Xingchen doesn't shake the hold off as they walk, seeing it as harmless at the moment. Xue Yang had promised not to hurt her, after all. "What is the point of lying?"
The scenario laid before her has her frown again. "Revenge hurts the soul, Xue Yang. I would catch them, of course I would, but then I would take them to someone I trust. And let them do what they feel necessary."
"There are many reasons to lie! So many I could hardly count them." Xue Yang's hold on Xingchen's arm is gentle - a mere embrace, though that brings the limb right against her breasts. Oops?
"And what if you didn't have someone you could trust? What if you were alone?" her gaze is unfocused and there is an old anger - a frustration - behind her words, "You would see them having safe, happy lives, bringing children of their own into the world... All the while, you're always in pain."
"Do you?" Is she wrong to trust the silver tongue telling her Xue Yang won't hurt her? The gentle hand on her arm that is so warm it has her heart racing?
Only for her heart to ache at the idea of being so alone. Her suspicion turns to concern. "Is that why you lash out? Because you are lonely? Because you're in pain?"
"That would be a waste of time, Furen. There are others that are much better at lying than I am~" she doesn't want to let go of the slender arm and she longs to take hold of Xingchen's hand. Why shouldn't she?
Her fingers are slender and callused from wielding her sword, but her hand is surprisingly warm and gentle.
"It started out like that. I was beaten mercilessly as a child and all because I wanted candy. I was dragged through the streets by my hair and hit with a whip. Then they drove a cart over my hand."
Finally, finally she has her pursuers separated and surrounded! She has little interest in Song Lan; it is Xiao Xingchen that has always drawn her eye. Xue Yang peers down from her vantage point on a nearby roof, grinning breathlessly.
"Daozhang Xingchen, you can't go anywhere. You have to face me~" she brings out Jiangzai, spinning the blade over her head, "Scared?"
"So are you! Daozhang Zichen can't help you." she leaps down from her perch to clash blades with the beauty beneath her, her body alive and tingling. Even Shuanghua is gorgeous! Why is life so unfair?
"Play with me~ I won't disappoint you, I promise." Xue Yang gets as close as she possibly can, clearly not fearing being cut or stabbed.
Shuanghua is really quite a stunning sword~ Xingchen takes just as good care of it as it does her. A shiver runs through her as their swords clash though.
"Is that why you act out? To get my attention? There are easier, better ways."
Uh oh. She's in trouble! Having that pretty face so close and is Xingchen...begging? It's close enough that Xue Yang feels herself flush from head to toe.
Jiangzai is moved to the side automatically; she has no real intention of hurting the other woman.
"You're so -" she bites the inside of her lip and grins, "I like you a lot. I sometimes wish I was more like Daozhang Zichen."
Her heart is also racing, and she knows her cheeks are flushed a little too. But she doesn't let go, not when it seems she's somehow gotten a positive result. Jiangzai is moved aside, at least, so Shuanghua does the same.
And that answer! Her cheeks flush darker. "Have you tried? You are strong Xue Yang. You could be very good. I know it."
"It's too late for that." she goes even further and puts Jiangzai away. Then with her hands freed, she grabs onto Xingchen's robe, pulling her almost into her arms.
"But I would risk being run through just to kiss you~" her eyes sparkle playfully and yet there is something serious buried underneath. So serious, in fact, that she is afraid to acknowledge her true feelings on the matter. She knows what happens to women like her.
Watching Jiangzai vanish back where it's kept...feeling how Xue Yang grabs her robes and pulls her closer too...somehow it makes her heart hurt and she shakes her head in denial. "No it isn't. Let me help you."
Xingchen feels her lips part at that admission, watches those eyes (so very close!) tease and yet be so serious...and Shuanghua lowers before sliding back into its sheath. "You haven't hurt me. I...I don't have a reason to hurt you. Only capture you, so you can stop hurting others."
"You want to capture me and throw me in prison, right? I've been there and I don't want to be locked away again." Xue Yang's grip on the other woman tightens before loosening, her fingers aching under the strain, "They put chains around your wrists, your ankles and sometimes even your neck! They fasten you to a wall. If you're lucky you can sit down - otherwise you have to hang in place against the stone."
She can't imagine any of it falls in line with Xingchen's expectations of justice.
"They might bring you food and water. They might even let some wild animal into your cell with you. Prisoners are worthless." she slides her arms around Xingchen's slender waist, humming happily, "I don't really want to hurt you."
She listens to the description of what is done to prisoners and frowns. Put that way, Xue Yang's reluctance makes sense. So what is a better solution? Her lips thin as she thinks, and she ends up distracted enough that it's those arms wrapping around her waist that drag her back out, and her cheeks flush again. Her hands move to grasp at Xue Yang's shoulders, still holding on but...
Something tells her she doesn't need to cling. And that admission that this woman doesn't really want to hurt her reassures her that it wasn't a bad move to sheath Shuanghua. "Then stay with me. I will watch out for you." She shakes her head. "You are not worthless."
